For my web-case, I decided to focus on the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. As I was doing research, I wanted to center my scope on large urban environments, especially ones that reflected a broad diversity in ethnic and and cultural traditions. My area of interest is sustainable food systems, especially ones that manage to integrate equity and justice into their models. Hunger and food insecurity is a cause I am passionate about, because I believe it’s an injustice that we need to eradicate. Belo Horizonte’s effort to fight hunger is what my case-study will be focused on. Why is it known as “The City That Ended Hunger”? This is the key question that my web case will answer. It is crucial for us to aspire towards food sustainability as the global population grows. We will need a new paradigm that centers communities and eco preservation in order to strive towards these goals.
